The RED DSMC2 Camera BRAIN With GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor – No Mount features a low-light capable sensor, with dual ISO 800/3200. The GEMINI provides cleaner imagery with less noise and better shadow detail. The DSMC2 BRAIN is capable of data write speeds of 300 MB/s, and can simultaneously record in REDCODE RAW and Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHR/HD. This camera was used by NASA to record low-light images in space.

Due to its 2 stops sensitivity over the HELIUM sensor, the GEMINI is now even more capable of capturing what you see in low-light scenarios. This sensor falls in size between the MONSTRO and the HELIUM (30.72 x 18mm; 35.61mm diagonal). GEMINI captures 5K RED RAW @ 96fps and includes what RED calls “big pixels”.

RED named the GEMINI after the Gemini Spacecraft which orbited the Earth in the mid-1960s for initial spaceflight leading up to their moon landing with the Apollo missions (the first manned missions to reach escape velocity and also walk on the moon).

With features like cable-free peripherals, integrated media bay, wireless control, and more, DSMC2 is also compatible with a growing arsenal of modules and accessories (from RED and other 3rd Party manufacturers). Add interchangeable OLPFs and lens mounts to achieve ultimate control over your footage.

NOTE: With the RED DSMC2 Camera BRAIN With GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor you can record in extreme low-light conditions with this dual ISO 800/3200 camera sensor, itself does not have a DC IN power port. A port expander or power module (sold separately) is required to power the camera. To build a working configuration for any BRAIN, RED recommends an expander, battery, lens mount, display, and media. All DSMC2 BRAINs ship with a standard OLPF; an OLPF 2-pack is available (sold seperately) for Skin Tone-Highlight and Low Light shooting environments.

Switch from Standard Mode with 800 ISO, the default setting, to Low Light Mode with 3200 ISO with a simple selection in the settings.

RED DSMC2 Camera BRAIN With GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor Anamorphic

This RED DSMC2 Camera BRAIN With GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor is suited to anamorphic lenses, due to the sensor being 300 pixels taller, maximizing your vertical resolution. With the GEMINI you will have greater anamorphic lens coverage than your HELIUM or RED DRAGON sensor.

Like most RED cameras, this DSMC2 BRAIN does not include a lens mount. You can mount a various lens mounts to RED cameras, the two most popular being the DSMC S35 Titanium PL Mount (725-0022) and DSMC S35 Aluminum Canon (EF) Mount (725-0026).

Interchangable OLPF

Each OLPF ships inside an individual, protective case. This RED DSMC2 GEMINI BRAIN includes a Standard OLPF (optical low-pass filter) suited for most shooting environments, to balance light and offer protection. It offers optimal colorimetry, IR protection, and optical glare reduction. If you are unfamiliar with the process, be sure to read the instructions in the RED Operation Guide before attempting to swap an interchangable OLPF.

Accessories

RED GEMINI and the other DSMC2 camera BRAINs can pair with a variety of RED and 3rd party accessories (sold separately). RED’s LEMO Adapter A will help you use your pre-existing EPIC or SCARLET displays (e.g., RED Touch, RED Pro, and RED PRO Touch) with the newer DSMC2 BRAIN.

Compact & Reinvented

The body of the DSMC2 BRAIN includes an exhaust vent in place of the ports at the bottom rear of the DSMC cameras. The body of the GEMINI is lighter and more compact than the original EPIC, despite the addition of added functionality inside. You will need to add accessories or modules on the DSMC2 to replace the removal of the timecode and Genlock ports, but this modular camera makes up for that in other way.

Unlike the DSMC, the DSMC2 BRAIN offers near silent fan operation.

The RED DSMC 150W AC Power Adapter allows the user to power a DSMC or DSMC2 camera directly from a wall outlet or other mains power source. A LEMO 1B 6-pin connector attaches and locks into the DC IN port on the camera BRAIN or module. This power adaptor can also be used to power the camera or charge batteries using the DSMC2 REDVOLT XL Module or REDVOLT XL Module (modules not included). An IEC (AC) power cable is included.
